Hearing LOSS - SSDI Qualification Rules?

Just My Opinion asked:

SSDI says (in their blue rule book) that hearing loss speech discrimination must be 40% or less in the better ear. My last test shows I have 8% left in my right ear and 20% left in my left ear. I have a job but I’ve been struggling more and more because I can’t understand what people say. Sometimes they get angry and yell (and I still don’t understand them) or they just say something derogitory and walk off. I still have that job only because my bosses boss is a friend of mine from 25 years back. Most of the people I work around won’t work with me anymore and I’m left alone a lot. I’m making mistakes at work frequently now because I don’t understand everything I’m told. My primary doctor told me he thought I should try for SSDI. The ENT doctor that did my tests said he used to do work for SSDI and that I qualify…but still I am concerned they will turn me down. I’m 54 and just barely learning Sign language from a book I got. Is there anyone that has experience with this?
Thank you.

Am I having hearing loss? thx?

Don’t cha know that I love u asked:

I just notice (about 1 week ago) that my left ear can hear clearer than my right ear. I have done test by myself to confirm this, I cover each ear to see which one hears clearer. No wonder whenever I listen to my mp3 player, my left ear always hear clearer than my right ear when the music starts and I though my headphone was broken. Whenever I listen to my mp3 player, I always turn the volume to max b/c whenever I listen to music I’m usually working out and loud music pumps me up so I guess listening to the loud music had effected my hearing but if that was the case then how come only my right ear experience ear lost. When I was like in 3rd or 4th grade I did had an ear infection. So is my right ear having ear loss? If so, how can I make it normal again? thx

question about depression and hearing loss in a young adult?

Vixen S asked:

I am a 26 year old female and mother of 2. I have had poor hearing since childhood but due to my families income was never checked or treated for it. I managed for the most part by lip reading and saying “what” a lot. Now a few weeks ago I got my hearing tested for the first time and I came up with a moderately severe (56-70 dB) loss. I was fitted and just received my new hearing aids. Now I should be happy about this right? But I’m finding myself depressed. I had no idea how much I had been missing out on. I am hearing all these little sounds I never new I was missing all this time. I have missed out on so much for so long. I just want to cry.

Is that crazy? Why can’t I just be happy? How do I deal with this feeling?
