Hearing loss?

lucy s asked:

Guys today I was in my friend’s infinity i30, and some girls in there too. I was in back seat and they turned up the music to full volume. It was really loud but it wasnt like hurting my ears. Although we had to talk louder to hear each other. I was in there for about 10 min, did I get hearing loss?
lol thanks guys but the reason I was worred is that I DID hear some VERY faint tinnitus in my right ear but only for like 7 seconds after I got out of the car.

Also, I couldn’t hear what my friends were saying for a little while, this is why I’m worried :( I know but I told them to turn it down but they wouldn’t. It’s not like I had control of the situation…

It depends, if you got out the car hearing a ringing in your ear, then , yes if not you probably suffered 5% hearing loss, wear ear plugs….

No, one exposure at this level is not going to cause hearing loss, however, the more you ARE exposed to loud music, the more likely you WILL develop hearing loss. It is a cumulative effect.

No! do not worry just temporary hearing impairment.it should recover. you would get hearing loss if you do this on a regular bases.

I always tell people that if they want to invest their money into something it should be hearing aides. The kids today listen to music at such a high volume that they will have hearing loss at an early age.

It is quite possible that you did a little damage to your inner ear. I say this because of the presence of tinnitus - this is often a sign that there has been some insult to your inner ear. You may find a temporary problem (called a Temporary Threshold Shift - TTS) initially following the incident and then slow recovery over time (there may be total recovery or almost total recovery which would be measured as a Standard Threshold Shift - STS)

Best to not put your ears at risk with loud levels of noise/music, etc. Ask them politely to turn the volume down next time.

You probably experienced a temporary threshold shift in your hearing. Did your ears ring? If this is what you experienced you will get your hearing back, however if you continue to listen to really loud music your hearing will permanently shift with your high frequency (high pitches) hearing going first. Don’t listen to people who tell you you lost %’s of your hearing. Hearing cannot be measured on a percentage scale. Depending on the decibel level they had the music turned up to determines whether or not you experienced a permanent threshold shift.

Decibel Exposure Time Guidelines

Accepted standards for recommended permissible exposure time for continuous time weighted average noise, according to NIOSH and CDC, 2002. For every 3 dBs over 85dB, the permissible exposure time before possible damage can occur is cut in half.

Permissible Exposure Time if you go over this hearing loss will occur

85 db 8 hours

88 dB 4 hours

91 db 2 hours

94 db 1 hour

97 db 30 minutes

100 db 15 minutes

103 db 7.5 minutes

106 dB 3.75 min (< 4min)

109 dB 1.875 min (< 2min)

112 dB .9375 min (~1 min) this is how loud a leaf blower is.

check out dangerousdecibels.org and it may clear a few things up for you

115 dB .46875 min (~30 sec)

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT…
YOU WERE IN THE BACKSEAT WITH “SOME GIRLS” FOR 10 MINUTES AND ALL YOU GOT WAS A HEARING LOSE?
WHATS UP WITH THAT?

Any sound at a volume that causes pain or ringing or temporary hearing decrease is bad for you…and over time this will cause permanent hearing loss. Ever notice that the musicians now wear ear plugs on stage?

NO dont sweat it man.its just that you,ve been exposed to the loud music for a long while so it takes your ears a bit time to get used to the normal volume.i go through this every week as now i am starting to like it.
