I suspect I have mild hearing loss. Where do I go to be tested without spending big money?

If you are a veteran, go to the VA.
If you are a student, the school can refer you to an audiologist.
If you live near a university that has a clinical audiology program, they are always looking for subjects.
Go to asha.org (American Speech Language Hearing Association) to find an audiologist or clinic in your area.
You may be able to work out a payment plan or get seen by a clinic which operates on a sliding scale.
Avoid hearing aid retailers. They are seldom audiologists and only do basic screenings, not a full hearing assessment. Their job is to sell you a hearing aid, not treat you with a device specific to your type of hearing loss.

Try a university, they may have a program to help you and any university with a medical school will likely have an audiology program. If it is affecting your ability to work, you can also try vocational rehabilitation. Good luck
