How long should I expect hearing loss from a concert?
Seiko K asked:
I went to a concert last night and it was loud (of course), and I didn’t have earplugs. After about a half hour, my hearing in both ears became muffled significantly, and lasted throughout. I figured it would come back after a few hours, but I went home and went to sleep and still, the hearing in my right ear is still muffled, and it is still ringing. My left ear has come back though.
I know it’s hard to tell, but how long should this last without it becoming a problem? How long does it usually last? When is it time to go see a doctor?

Oh, it’s normal. It happens to me everytime I go to a concert. Probably by tonight or tomorrow everything will be back to normal.

Loud music like any loud sounds, which exceeds 95dB HL can cause temporary hearing loss. when exposed to very loud levels , like 110dB and above, one gets what is called temporary threshold shift, TTS. which becomes normal if given rest, by 24hrs to 48 hrs, If ur hearing remains affected after this period it is a good idea to see an audiologist and get a diagnostic tests done, because depending on other factors, more permanent hearing changes can also occur..
